Student Art Show and Alumni Exhibition

 

Official Rules For Students

 

  1. Eligibility:

    The student competition is open to Crown Point High School Senior Class Students (Grade 12) currently enrolled in the 2019 – 2020 school year. You do not have to be enrolled in a CPHS art class to enter.
     

  2. Guidelines: 
    Students may only enter one piece of artwork. Artwork must be two-dimensional, in the following categories: Drawing and Printmaking, Painting, Mixed Media (a combination of two or more media.) Due to space and safety concerns there will be no sculpture or 3 dimensional pieces.

    All work must be framed with sturdy wire hangers and “display ready”. Work may not exceed 30” in any direction (including frame). Stretched canvas with finished edges need not be framed but must have a wire hanger.

     

  3. Subject Matter and Suitability: 
    All entries must be artist's “original” work and not violate any U.S. copyright laws. “Original” is defined as artwork which is unique in concept, design, and execution, and is created directly and personally by the artist. “Original” work is not a copy or imitation of another person’s work.

    All entries should be “school appropriate”. Entries that unnecessarily depict violence or political controversy, are profane, depict nudity, or promote hate or illegal activities will be disqualified.

     

  4. How to Enter: 
    There is no fee for student entries.

    This is a juried show. Not all entries will be accepted.

    Additionally, due to limited display space, not all accepted works will be displayed at the Crown Point Community Library but all accepted works will be displayed on the online gallery on the show's website.

    All entries must be received online on or before 11:59 p.m. Central Time, January 10, 2020. 

    All entries must be submitted online. Students shall submit a digital attachment (scanned or digital photo in one of the following formats: PNG, or JPG, 72 ppi, minimum 480 pixels in any dimension, maximum 780 pixels in any direction, 1 MB max. file size) of their work with the entry form.

    Students who are not 18 years of age must have the parent/guardian section of the entry form completed by their legal parent/guardian.

    Artiists will be notified of acceptance vial email January 14, 2020. Notification will verify acceptance for the physical exhibit or the online gallery.
     

  5. Delivery and Pick Up:
    Artwork accepted for the Crown Point Community Libray exhibit must be presented to the library during the following hours: 

    January 25, 2020: 12:00 - 4:30 PM
    January 26, 2020: 2:00 - 4:00 PM
    January 27, 2020: 12:00 - 6:00 PM

     

    At the end of the exhibition all work must be picked up during the following hours:

    February 29, 2020: 12:00 - 4:30 PM
    March 1, 2020: 2:00 - 4:30 PM
    March 2, 2020: 12:00 - 6:00 PM


     

  6. Judging: 
    The judging panel consists of Crown Point High School alumni or former faculty actively involved in the visual arts or art education. Decisions concerning eligibility, acceptance and the presentation of awards will be made by the judges and their decisions will be final.

     

  7. Awards
    The following awards will be presented: Diane Sykes Memorial Best of Show ($200), Best of Category ($50), Honorable Mention in Each Category ($25)

    Winners will be notified via email and posted on the Art Show website 
    on January 16, 2020 

    Awards will be presented at the Art Show opening reception and ceremony at the
    Crown Point Community Library on February 1, 2020.

     

  8. Conduct of Participation:
    By entering the competition, students agree to adhere to these rules and to abide by the decisions of the judges. The Crown Point High School Alumni Association reserves the right to disqualify any student acting in violation of these rules or found tampering with the entry process, or with the operation of the competition or website. 

     

  9. Limitations and Release of Liability: 
    BY ENTERING THE COMPETITION, STUDENTS AGREE THAT THE CROWN POINT HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION, THE CROWN POINT COMMUNITY LIBRARY AND THEIR RESPECTIVE ADMINISTRATORS, EMPLOYEES, SPONSORS, DIRECTORS, AGENTS, REPRESENTATIVES, AND PARTICIPATING COMPETITION JUDGES SHALL NOT HAVE ANY LIABILITY OR OBLIGATION FOR ANY LOSS OR NON-DELIVERY OF, OR DAMAGE TO, ANY ARTWORK THAT IS NOT CAUSED DIRECTLY BY SUCH PERSON’S OR ENTITY’S WILLFUL OR RECKLESS MISCONDUCT.

    By entering the competition, students agree to release, discharge, indemnify, and hold harmless the Crown Point High School Alumni Association, the Crown Point Community Library and their respective administrators, employees, sponsors, directors, and agents, and participating competition judges from and against any and all claims of any nature whatsoever, including but not limited to, claims of copyright infringement by any party whatsoever; as well as any other claims, damages or liability of any kind resulting in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from acceptance, possession, misuse or use of any prize, participation in any competition related activity, or participation in this competition. Sponsor reserves the right to modify, suspend or terminate the Contest in the event that it becomes necessary due to circumstances beyond Sponsor’s control. In the event the Competition is terminated early, Winners and Finalists will be selected from all eligible entries received at the time of termination.
